** Notice of Limited Parking **

Parking spaces and parking areas within the Town of Beech Mountain are limited due to the mountainous terrain. Availability of parking has been a recurring issue throughout the Town for many years. Due to our area parking limitations, we ask that all visitors be patient, park legally and act courteously to property owners, and use good judgement while visiting.

While visitors are always welcome to enjoy the amenities of the Town and High Country, parking a vehicle in the travel lane of a road will result in having the vehicle cited and/or towed. Parking a vehicle on private property may also result with the vehicle being towed and possible ‘Trespassing’ charges sought by a property owner. The influx of visitors will continue to be welcomed within our beautiful Town, but the Police Department cautions drivers to legally park vehicles.

New Fillable 911 Form

Dear Beech Mountain Homeowners,

As many of you know, the Town of Beech Mountain operates an enhanced Emergency 911 system. When the system was initially set up, we collected data from property owners and have since been updating that information when it was volunteered, when new phones were installed or when property was transferred. By having up-to-date information in our computer systems, emergency responders can more effectively and efficiently help you in case of an emergency.

Be assured that all information you supply will be held in the strictest confidence. Thank you for helping us continue to help you.

Recycling Center Notice

Due to the substantial costs incurred by the taxpayers of Town of Beech Mountain to dispose of solid waste and in an effort to control those costs, the Town Council has established a system to verify that its green box site and recycling center (also known as the Convenience Center) is being used by proper citizens, residents, and guests.

This involves use of a permit system. Without a permit, it is not appropriate for anyone to dump or dispose of solid waste at the Convenience Center. These permits are available to homeowners, renters, and other individuals who purchase these permits. Permits can be obtained from Town Hall or Fred’s General Mercantile.

Anyone disposing of trash at the Convenience Center or otherwise improperly disposing of trash must have a permit, and the failure to do so is punishable by the issuance of civil penalties. These penalties range from a $100 to a $500 fine and will be issued by the Beech Mountain Police Department.

The Town of Beech Mountain is also investigating the production, issuance, and use of forged Convenience Center Passes. This is a crime which is classified as a Felony Offense and punishable by up to 39 months in State Prison. See N.C. Gen. Stat. §14-100. Obviously, this is a very serious offense, and the Town of Beech Mountain Police Department encourages its citizens, guests and property owners to comply with the established rules and regulations for disposing of trash.

Finally, we ask that everyone treat the employees at the Convenience Center with courtesy and respect. Whether you agree or disagree with the requirements for disposing of trash, these employees are not the policy makers. Please conduct yourselves in a manner that will make your neighbors proud and keep Beech Mountain the friendly community we all know it to be.

Should you have any questions regarding enforcement of these issues, please feel free to contact me at (828) 387-2342 or Town Manager Bob Pudney at (828) 387-4236. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with these procedures.

Sincerely,

Tim Barnett
Chief of Police

This website is one of the many ongoing steps we are taking to demonstrate our department’s commitment, dedication, and professionalism to the community we serve.
